Thring TownsendFacilitating the development of a new marketing strategyEmploying some three hundred people, Thring Townsend is one of the largest law firms in their region. The firm was created through the merger of Swindon based Townsend Solicitors and Bath based Thring & Long. Each department specialises in a specific area of law. One partner in the department acts as the marketing champion, working with the marketing department led by Head of Marketing, Holly Keays, who has overall responsibility for a cohesive marketing strategy. OpportunityThring Townsend identified a need to develop a more strategic and consistent marketing plan, projecting the two newly merged firms as a single force in the market, whilst also reflecting the diverse specialisations serving vastly differing customer needs. In the process, they wanted to support the marketing champions in developing a more creative and less formulaic approach to promoting their specific offering. Action taken by True North“It was important to us that we had someone who had real business experience, good marketing knowledge and the ability to facilitate the group through a process that would both produce results, but also create an environment where people would learn and be inspired to take action after the event”, says Holly. True North worked with Holly to design and deliver two consecutive marketing workshops, facilitated by a highly skilled True North coach with relevant marketing knowledge and experience. ResultsHolly Keays, Head of Marketing: “We created a much more rounded marketing plan with a really clear direction. The facilitator’s approach challenged us and encouraged us to draw on our own experience and knowledge. We intended to get everyone thinking creatively and we certainly succeeded. Having the facilitator there also meant that we were able to formulate the thoughts into a very sound plan.” “So we got the results we wanted but, because of the way the workshops were facilitated, we got a lot on top as well. A real buzz was created both during and after the workshops. We generated a genuine interest and ownership amongst the marketing champions. Bridges were built between the champions and the marketing department and we all learnt lots of different techniques and approaches that will help us facilitate in a myriad different situations.”
